NSW Surveying Businesses Take Top Awards

Friday 21, Jun 2019

There were plenty of smiles from winners at the national 2019 Surveying Consultancy Excellence Awards held on the waterfront at Customs House in Brisbane on June 6. Organised as part of the Surveying 2019 National Congress, these awards were established to recognise performance excellence in surveying consultancies across the nation.

To acknowledge the quality of consulting firms of all sizes, the awards are comprised of small, medium and large categories based on employee numbers.

The biggest smiles came from proud winner of the large consultancy category, Taylors, who also took out this prize at last year’s awards night. Based in Victoria and with offices in Brisbane, Perth, Auckland, Christchurch and Jakarta, Taylors is a multi-disciplinary development solutions consultancy with over 160 professionals.

Immensely proud of his team, Richard Cirillo, CEO commented that ‘We are overwhelmed to be the winners of this award for the second time and I’m exceptionally grateful to my team for their ongoing commitment to the improvement of our culture and professionalism.’‘We embrace innovation and technology to provide better service to clients, foster both personal and professional growth in our teams, celebrate diversity and inclusion, and are firmly committed to a ‘safety first’ culture.’

Also understanding the need to create a professional team to produce professional outcomes, winner of the medium consultancy category, SDG Land Development Solutions (SDG) from Baulkham Hills in Sydney has over the years become a great example of a truly professional, community-focussed company in the Sydney hills area.

Thrilled by the win, Craig Turner, Managing Director revealed that ‘From technical seminars to the engagement of external consultants to assist graduate surveyors in their preparation for surveying registration examinations, SDG is committed to furthering the professionalism of our staff.’‘

But we also prioritise the health of our employees and offer many extra benefits, including an Employee Assistance Program for team members and their immediate families which is available when emotional and psychological support is required.’

These organisations are also dedicated to developing and refining operating processes, aimed at providing exceptional outcomes for clients.  This was evident in the award submission from Australian Survey Solutions in Bowral NSW, the winner of the Small Consultancy Category.

Gerry Shone, President of Consulting Surveyors National and part of the judging panel for the awards, noted that ‘The judging panel were impressed by the way in which the management team at Australian Survey Solutions were dedicated to personal and company development, implementing extensive business management systems which ensure quality outcomes. The company has two assistants who track the progress of jobs, note the current status and facilitate regular communication with clients – it’s fantastic to see this dedication to quality.’

With Australian Surveying Solutions experiencing exponential growth over the past four years, Paul Brandon, Managing Director, says the company is committed to becoming a great example of a truly professional, community-focussed company.‘

The key is to take great care of your employees, allowing them to take great care of your clients. Right from the word go we put this goal in place and are continually evolving and improving our model of employee and client care. We ensure that the latest technology is integrated into our processes so that we can provide a product beyond the client’s expectations.’

The judging panel for the awards were not only impressed by the way the three winning organisations demonstrated a commitment to providing excellent service to clients but were thrilled to see each company’s commitment to the community and development of the surveying profession.

Astounded by the quality of entries from both urban and regional businesses, Mr Shone highlighted that ‘The calibre of all entrants was high and this year saw record numbers of entries, but these three firms stood out as the clear winners, demonstrating that excellence is not restricted to large capital city firms – small regional firms can likewise excel.’’

Also acknowledged for their commitment to achieving business excellence, LandTeam and PHL Surveyors from NSW received Highly Commended Certificates in the Medium Consultancy Category, while Craig & Rhodes from Sydney also received a high commendation in the Large Consultancy Category.

The Surveying Consultancy Awards were held during the Surveying 2019 National Congress gala dinner held on Thursday 6 June at Customs House in Brisbane.
